Windows 8 drivers to format the hard disk

Before I start off, let me make something clear, Windows 8 hasn’t been released. In this post, we’ll be talking only about the Windows 8 Developer Preview that was released some time back. And one more thing, I’m not an overpaid Microsoft employee (although I’d like to be one!) who thinks, umm wait, who just thinks.  I guess that should take care of half of those queries you have in your mind (which later pop up as comments, sadly!).

I’ve wasted enough time already. Let’s take a look at what this article is about!

The format option

So, this is the thing, formatting your hard disk is really easy in Windows 8. Want to know how? Well, read on!

When you attach a new hard drive on your Windows 8 computer, you’ll first need to set partitions and format them. Yeah, that’s routine. Now, what sets Windows 8 apart is the same fact. Once you create the partition, you can also carry out the formatting process under the same wizard.

And that’s not all; you can even choose to format a newly created partition that contains the Windows operating system. Moreover, you can even attach a new hard disk and create partitions even if what you need is just the added space. How cool is that!

Well, I’ve said enough about those cool Windows 8 drivers already. Let’s take a look at how this is done now!

Format steps in Windows 8

  1. Log into your Windows 8 computer. Oh, make sure that you’re using the administrator account, else it might create problems!
  2. Choose Desktop from the welcome screen.
  3. From here, right click on the Computer icon and click Manage from the drop down menu.
  4. Under the Computer Management window, press the Disk Management option from the left pane. Next, choose the hard disk drive that has unallocated space from the right pane.
  5. Click New Simple Volume and press Next to continue to the next page.
  6. Specify the partition size of the new partition (in MB) in the space provided and then click Next.
  7. In the next page, don’t adjust the default values. Just click Next.
  8. You may mark the Perform a quick format checkbox in the subsequent page. Click Next and then Finish to start the format.

Yeah, that’s about it. The format should take some time to complete. Have a nice day!
